When was the last time an Altima made you do a double take?
![]() 04/21/2016 at 10:58 |

Never... I’ve never done a double-take on an Altima.

I didn’t need this proof to prove this point to me but I still needed to see this.

Nope...

How can they sell a car that costs more than $20k with steelies in 2016?
I thought the owner put those steelies but they come from the factory.

I don’t know the last time I’ve even
seen
an Altima. They may as well be invisible.

My little bro had to “settle” for a base model 4-door Golf in gunmental gray. He was bummed about the hubcaps, took them off on the first day, tinted the windows to 15%, and it looks amazing. Far nicer than an $18k car has any business looking.

Confession time: I cannot stand plain steelies. It’s an ugly look. Stylized ones are okay (such as early 5th gen Camaro LS wheels), but this just looks like someone hit a bump too hard and the plastic covers popped off.

Exactly. Personally I’m not a huge fan of busy wheel designs because I feel like they detract from the overall design of the car. Modern cars especially have a lot going on up top - throw in some garish wheels and it’s just too busy. Reduce the wheels’ visibility by rocking steelies and it really allows the design of the body to stand on its own merits.
Normal people (and a surprising amount of Jalops) think steelies are plain and ugly, but they want them more than they know. That's why people go nuts over the black wheels on the F-Type and new Mustang - they look like steelies at speed.

Yes

I’ve liked the “murdered out” and low-tech aspect of steelies since WAY before black rims were popular. I still don’t like most dark rims. But something just works here, especially on a well-kept car. It’s just an interesting contrast. I kind of wish all trimlines came with steelies and a voucher to buy whatever rims you want...because most stock wheels just suck.

See my other reply about busy wheels detracting from modern cars’ overall designs. I think basically invisible wheels make the design language pop.

We think very much alike.

Wheels are a major part of a car’s design IMO. Just tossing some black discs on there is just bland and unimpressive. Wheels should compliment the design, not be ugly hockey pucks that act as if there’s just no wheel there. I can’t name a single car that would look better with a plain steelie than something that’s at least been styled a little bit.

No

If that’s true, it’s not doing the Altima any favors.

I mean, design is subjective and we happen to disagree. That’s cool.

steelies made an altima better

No Altman will make do a double take. This looks terrible, every time I see black steelies I just think to myself someone was too lazy or cheap to replace their hubcaps.

The steelies on the Prius are actually pretty rad.

I love my steelies!

Hubcaps ALWAYS look like chromey pieces of crap. I wish every car out there would just run with steelies instead of those stupid hubcaps. The only time they look bad is when they are all rusted to hell.

Idk, those G37 Altimas look decent lol

Those are pretty sweet!

Those are aluminium wheels. The corners are way too sharp and the spokes too thin to be stamped out of a piece of steel suitable for a wheel. Also, the lug holes look like aluminium.

THIS. I hate that my stock Honda hubcaps are the shittiest looking part of the car, with the silver paint peeling off the cheap-ass plastic like it’s nobody’s business. Behind the shitty plastic hubcaps (which are held on by the lug nuts, so you have to remove them to get the stupid caps off) are rusty-ass steel wheels, which look like they’re 50 years old and left in a barn to rot because they only put a primer coat of paint on them. I wonder if I can get a set of those little bitty caps for Honda wheels that only cover the hub.

my initial double take thought is “Oh no, who stole the hubcaps off of that rental?”
Sorry dude, I see your comments and see you really want this to be a thing but.......I think you’re the only member of the fan club. Maybe if the steelies where painted silver or white or a color it would be cool but the whole “cheapest black paint we can find” look doesn’t do it for me.

See, I literally just posted an opinion and a lot of people seem really bent out of shape, like “how can you possibly find that attractive?” It's not a great look for Oppo, I'm kind of surprised by it honestly.

I think the steelies on my Honda looked so much better without those stupid hubcaps. I was missing one and a half of them anyways. Plus they other "good" ones were scratched. Anyways, steelies definitely suited that car well.
